Here’s How to Work With Your Heart Chakra for More Self-Love and Aligned Partnerships

If you’re looking for love, to deepen an existing relationship, or feel more connected and supportive of yourself, the heart chakra is where it’s at.

The heart (or 4th) chakra is receptive, meaning the energy is drawn more inward. Many people believe it’s the bridge between your physical body and your soul (although some say it’s the third eye, or 6th chakra).

To me, the heart as the bridge makes sense because it’s all about self-love. When we love ourselves unconditionally, we can truly love another in the same way.

We can only create on the outside what we have on the inside. Meaning, if we want to be in a deeply fulfilling, incredibly supportive relationship, we need to feel supported by ourselves on the inside.

Remember: It’s not about being “perfect” — because you are already whole and perfect. It’s about giving yourself a little more love every day. It’s about remembering who you truly are.

One of my favorite ways to work on the heart chakra, and bring the energy back into balance, is through visualization techniques. Here are my go-tos:

Color visualization

Sit in a relaxed position with your eyes closed. Focus on your heart chakra, which is the area in the middle of your chest. Imagine a small dot of green or pink light. See the colorful light expanding, filling your entire chest and radiating outward. Spend 5 minutes visualizing this light reaching in every direction, covering your town, country, the world, planet, and Universe.

Breathing visualization

Spend a few minutes breathing into your heart, imagining that you’re washing away any stagnant energy with your breath.

Spritz bottle visualization

Close your eyes, and imagine you have a spray bottle filled with a special “energy clearing” potion. Spritz your heart as many times as needed, and repeat throughout the day. You can do this anywhere, anytime.

Inner child visualization

Sit in a relaxed position with your eyes closed. Envision a child or a pet you adore. Feel your heart filling with love. Now, imagine yourself as a child. See yourself for who you are: perfection, absolute love. Fill your heart with love for that child. Watch them grow, feeling your love grow with them, until you are your current age.

Forgiveness visualization

Sit in a relaxed position with your eyes closed. Bring someone to mind (it could be yourself) that you wish to forgive. Envision their (or your) pure, loving soul energy, and bring it into your heart center. Feel into your heart opening. Allow your heart to expand as you bring the energy of forgiveness into your entire being.
